You know it is windy when the wind speed anemometer for the weather station was blown off!
I was woken up by the wind at 1 am even with a pillow wrapped around my head to block out the noise of the television my wife needs to be on so she can fall asleep. The house was swaying so much that I was getting dizzy on the 3rd floor bedroom so I moved down to the 2nd floor only to still feel the house sway. Kenny and Kristi moved down to the 1st floor guest bed. I looked at the weather station display seeing sustained winds of 68 mph with the highest being 73 mph. At that time, the guage was still recording wind. Although, when I looked in the morning there was no current wind reading, but it still showed the highest wind was 73 mph. The anemometer must have blown off due to the sustained upper 60s wind. The umbrella on our rooftop deck blew over even though weighed down with 300 pounds of sand and water. A cover for our gas powered fireplace was bubbled up, ripped a corner, and the wind caused a 15 pound stone paver to be thrown off the cover onto the floor of the deck. Many plants in the yard with new spring growth have withered. That was a wicked wind!

Kenny won third place today in his school's speech festival. That in and of itself is impressive. But the really impressive part is that he overcame some pretty relentless stage fright in order to do it. Normally, he doesn't even try during the annual speech festival, because he does not want to have to get on stage in the final round with hundreds of people looking at him. But this year, he decided he was gonna go for it. He prepared diligently for about five weeks, and he did Frederick Douglass proud with his recitation.
I'm lucky in that my kid very frequently makes me proud with the things he accomplishes, but this is, hands down, the most proud I've ever been.
