Today is one individual and one relay for the boy. He made the finals in the 200 meter freestyle and will swim it again tonight. He anchored the 4x100 relay with a personal best time and the boys took second place. So far so good.
This was the last day. It came down to the last few finals to determine which team would win the meet. Kenny was one of many swimmers who stepped up and delivered clutch swims at the end of four grueling days to secure the win by a mere 14 points. It was so exciting!!
Kenny tracks his yardage (he's into numbers in a big way). The total yardage (he converted the meters) he swam in Fresno/Clovis was over 34,000. That's almost 20 miles in 4 days!
In those miles, he competed in 8 individual events and 4 relays. He made finals in 5 out of 6 events. He gained time in only 1 event. He came home with 5 medals: Golds in the 1500 and 800 freestyles, Silvers in two relays, and 4th place in the 400 free.
He worked exceptionally hard to prepare for this meet. His physical conditioning and mental strength were remarkable throughout. I swear he got stronger as the meet went on. And he left motivated to work even harder.
Coach Thomas and Kenny. They've been together for two years. Two very transformative years for the boy. Thomas was the right coach at the right time. He's made Kenny a better swimmer and a better person.
