Daddy wanted the family to experience the opportunity of enjoying the Hoover Dam tour using the original elevators; they are being used temporarily during a major over 6-month renovation of the visitor center and associated elevators. The renovation started in Oct 2018 and was supposed to finish by March 2019. Although, delays occurred. It was a good thing the renovation was delayed because we couldn't find a good weekend for the tour. This weekend was ideal because the visitor center reopened in less than two weeks. Unfortunately, a few weeks after reopening, the elevators failed. As a matter of fact, they failed several times in later part of 2019 and early 2020. Sometimes the elevators were down for a few days. Other times they were down for several weeks. So much for the lowest bidder. The original elevators have a much better track record for reliability. Too bad they can't handle a large volume of people. There is another elevator on the Arizona side, but that one is not used for tours because it is considered as a backup in case the Nevada elevator we enjoyed ever failed. In any case, this was a great historic opportunity I'm glad the family and our friends Brett, Julia, and Stella were able to enjoy with us!
