Per Jim Boone: As for the palms, they are not native to our region, so the first (I assume the one that is nearly twice the size of the other) was planted by someone. I assume the others were spread by birds or other animals. I think the northern-most native fan palms grow in Joshua Tree National Park. It is interesting, however, to note that the oldest European name we know of for Little Finland is “Lone Palm."
